Founded in 1962, North River Commission (NRC) focuses on comprehensive community development, including education organizing, economic development, affordable housing and community and park planning. NRC unites more than one hundred civic organizations, schools, businesses, and institutions to coordinate ideas and concentrate the resources of the North River community to improve the quality of life for all.

The mission of the North Park Friendship Center (NPFC) is to improve the quality of life in our neighborhood by: fostering true community; providing opportunities for the sharing of gifts, talents, and resources; and serving our neighbors in their social and spiritual needs.
NPFC provides an increasing number of ministries to families, children, adults, and seniors in our neighborhood, including:
- Food pantry (including food delivery for the home-bound)
- Mother's Closet providing clothing for all ages
- Referral services
- Job training and counseling

For more than 30 years, APCC has been ranked as one of the top community organizations in Chicago, and continues to be a model for many programs nationwide. APCC has grown to a multi-service organization with over 20 program departments serving more than 8,500 clients annually. All programs are grouped into one of three major program divisions: Children?s Services, Youth Services and Adult and Community Services.
